Probe — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-08
Probe does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
All settings (visible chips, sort order, alert thresholds, theme preferences) are stored locally in macOS UserDefaults. None of this data ever leaves your device.
Probe makes no network calls. It does not contact any server, fetch any update, send any analytics, or report any telemetry. Every metric Probe displays is read directly from the macOS kernel (host_statistics64, sysctl, getifaddrs, IOPSCopyPowerSourcesInfo, IOKit registry) on your local machine.
Probe contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
Optional Probe Helper
If you install the optional Probe Helper, it runs as a LaunchDaemon outside the App Sandbox, enumerates running processes via proc_listallpids, and writes a JSON snapshot of per-process CPU and memory usage to /Library/Application Support/Probe Helper/snapshot.json. No process data leaves your machine — Probe (the App Store app) reads that local file.
The helper has no network calls, no telemetry, and no analytics. Its source is published in the Probe repo on GitHub. You can uninstall it at any time by running the uninstall.sh script.
